Tango & High Heels with Adriana Pegorer
Kindly assisted by Larry (the skeleton)
2-4 pm class
This class is open to anybody who would like to explore the mechanics of the foot in relation to the spine and pelvis and it is open for people who do not wear high heels too!
It also aims to counterbalance the effects of hours of dancing on high heels...
The class will be influenced by bio-mechanics and functional anatomy as well as release technique's principles.
HIGH HEELS ON THE NEWS:
For the recent spring/summer collection, supermodel Gisele Bundchen refused to wear the 'absurdly arch elevating' heels, and the result was that all the models wore flat shoes for the cat walk!!
A recent poll of about 15,000 total votes revealed that 82% consider high heel a torture for their feet and only 18% were in favour of high heels.

"So i am not going to be able to give you an answer to why magnets attract each other, except to tell you that they do.... I could tell you that the magnetic forces are related to the electrical forces very intimately...that our relationship between the gravity forces and electical forces remains unknown, and so on... but i really cannot do a good job, any job, of explaning magnetic force, in terms of something else that you are more familiar with, because i do not understand in terms of anything else that you are more familiar with" Seynman

It aims to develop an harmonious body-mind relationship and an awareness of body aligment. In this matt-based class we will work on the dynamic connection of legs and arms to the spinal axis. We will then transfer to the vertical plane to explore how we can balance the activity of the head, torso and pelvis harmoniously and functionally whilst walking and dancing in partnership.

Special Tango & 'Roles in Motion' workshop with Charlotte Rivero (Sweden)
Queer tango dancing is associated with the exchange of roles and same sex dancing but it also gives you the possibility to explore sliding roles, in such an intense connection that it is not always clear who is leading and who is following. Charlotte will introduce you to the techniques for reaching this by opening to a connection that flows both in a traditional and open embrace and by guiding you to ways of listening to the music that provides opportunities to dance in a queer way. There will also be time to discuss the concept "queer tango".

happy new year!
Dear Tango Release friends,
I have tried to keep the sessions running regularly on each first sunday of the month but due to space bookings, my other commitments and holidays such as xmas it has been challenging! My apologies.... The workshop on the 24th October -below- brings together the autumn sessions in one and i thought it would be appropriate to revisit all the special guest's contributions from the spring and summer seasons (aikido, feldenkrais, butoh, meditation and contact improvisation)
However, I feel that in the last two years things have gone pretty well!
thanks to all of you who participated and brought curiosity, intention and focus into the studio
The first session in 2009 started with a snow storm...
the first session in 2010 started at the New Year's Jam in Notting Hill.....
........i am not sure yet how the 2011 will start but will let you know soon!
my best wishes
Adriana

Tango Release Autumn Workshop: Sunday 24th October
THIS WORKSHOP TAKES PLACE IN THE ROOF STUDIO!
with Adriana Pegorer 2-6 pm £ 20/15 level: general
In this workshop we will revisit elements from the 'Responsive Yelding' spring themed sessions on how to bring influences from Aikido, Feldenkrais, Meditation and Butoh into Tango dancing and, perhaps, viceversa. Elements of previous themed sessions like 'negotiating', 'engaging' and 'harmonizing' will also be addressed...
There will be plently of time for breaks, discussions, jamming!
Here is an informative -and rather funny!- lecture by Robert Farris Thompson on the Afro Argentine legacy of Tango. Nothing to do with what will we do in the workshop! Just something i came across recently although i have been reading his excellent book. Enjoy!
